Spanish Baroque Era Painter, ca.1617-1682 Spanish religious and portrait painter. He was born in Seville, where most of his life was spent. There, c.1645, he painted a series of 11 pictures of the history of the Franciscan order for a monastery. These brought him immediate fame, and for the remainder of his life he was the favorite painter of the wealthy and pious Andalusian capital. His early works show the influence of Zurbarn in the dramatic use of light and shadow. Murillo adapted several compositions from northern and Italian prints. Notable works of his early years include St. Leander, St. Isidore, Vision of St. Anthony (all: cathedral, Seville), Birth of the Virgin (Louvre), and his series for the Church of Santa Maria la Blanca. In 1660 he was instrumental in founding the Seville Academy, of which he shared the presidency with the younger Francisco de Herrera. From 1670 to 1682, Murillo painted many of his major religious works, including those for the Charity Hospital and for the Capuchin convent (Seville Mus.). These religious works, particularly the Madonnas, are noted for their sweetness of mood. In 1682, while working on the Marriage of St. Catherine for the Capuchin church of Cediz, Murillo fell from a scaffold and died as a result of his injuries. fritz thaulow
född 1847 i Christiania, död 5 november 1906, var en norsk målare. Han är en av de internationellt mest kända norska konstnärerna från 1800-talet. Thaulow fick sin utbildning vid Konstakademin i Köpenhamn 1870 -72, och 1873-75 var han elev till Hans Gude i Karlsruhe. Åren efter detta uppehöll han sig för det mesta i Paris där han fick avgörande intryck från de franska impressionisterna. 1880 vände Thaulow hem som överbevisad naturalist. Tillsammans med Christian Krohg och Erik Werenskiold blev han snabbt en av ledarna i de unge konstnärernas kamp för en rikare och mer vidsynt norsk konstmiljö. Thaulow var bl.a. med på att etablera den första Höstutställningen 1882. 1892 slog han sig ner i Frankrike, och han besökte USA 1898. Från och med samma år bosatte han sig i Paris, där han blev en kändis och blev också känd internationellt, bl.a. genom att bli antagen till den prestigefulla Salongen.

Luis Ricardo Falero (1851 - December 7, 1896) was a Spanish painter. He specialized in female nudes and mythological and fantasy settings. Most of his paintings contained at least one female nude or topless nude. His most common medium was oil on canvas.
BRAY, Jan de
Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1627-1697 Painter, draughtsman and etcher, son of Salomon de Bray. He spent virtually the whole of his career in Haarlem, except for the period 1686-8, when he lived in Amsterdam. After training with his father, Jan began working as a portrait painter in Haarlem in 1650, an activity he continued for the next 40 years. Between 1667 and 1684 he served on the committee for the Haarlem Guild of St Luke, whose leading members he portrayed in a picture dated 1675 (Amsterdam, Rijksmus.) that includes a self-portrait (Jan is seen standing and drawing on the left). He married three times, in 1668, 1670 and 1672. His first two wives died a year after their marriage, his third two years afterwards, and in each case the death was followed by disputes over the inheritance. Jan's bankruptcy of 1689 may have been a result of one of the lawsuits.
